Name Your Guild, Clan, Alliance or Team

Five naming tools for the thing you and your friends are about to start: a coalition, a guild, a clan with a tag that fits, a team with a scoreline, and something to shout. Twelve suggestions a click, and a link that shows everybody the same twelve.

Name it in the order people will read it

A community has four pieces of identity and they are not equally load-bearing. In rough order of how often a stranger encounters them: the tag, the icon, the name, and — a long way behind — the motto. Most groups build them in exactly the opposite order, spend a week on a motto nobody reads, and end up with a four-character tag chosen in thirty seconds because the game demanded one during sign-up.

So the useful sequence is: pick a name whose short form you can live with, cut the tag deliberately rather than accidentally, draw an icon that survives being small, and write the motto last, when you know what the group is actually like.

Which of these five you want

• An alliance is a group of groups. The name has to work in somebody else's diplomacy channel, which rules out most of what is funny. Alliance names →

One shortlist, one link

Every tool here rolls twelve at a time and puts the batch in the address bar, so the link you paste into a group chat opens the same twelve for everybody. That is the whole design: naming a community is a committee decision, and a generator that hands each person a different random list makes the committee impossible.

All five run entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, there is no account and no analytics, and every one of them keeps working with the network switched off once the page has loaded.

Then it needs a picture

A name in a member list is competing with thirty others and the icon is doing most of the work. Both of these are on this site and both are free: the Discord server icon generator composes a flat two-colour mark, previews it at the sizes Discord actually renders it at, and exports a square 512 px PNG; the Discord profile picture maker does the personal version, monogram and all.

Can I use the names these tools produce?

Yes — for anything, including commercial work, with no permission and no credit required. Short strings like a name or a two-word motto are not the kind of thing anyone can own, and the crest you compose is your composition, not ours. Take it to a novel, a tabletop campaign, a stream overlay, a band, a boat, a business card.

We ask for exactly nothing in return: no account, no email, no sign-up, no watermark. Nothing you type or click here is sent anywhere — every one of these tools runs entirely inside your own browser, so there is no server that could keep your design even if it wanted to. If you want to tell somebody where it came from, a link back is kind, but it is not a condition.
