I have heard the Faceless Men began as a mercy for slaves who begged the Many-Faced God for release; I believe the first gift was compassion, not murder dressed as faith. Nobody can prove who made that bargain.
I searched old Braavosi accounts and compared the temple’s stories, but each was copied by a hand with something to hide. What did the first Faceless Man ask in return?
