Tips & Tricks
Quick answers
- Is Iron Realms free to play?
- Yes. Iron Realms is free to play in any browser with no download and no account required. Every building, troop tier and Seat of Power is reachable without spending money — purchases buy speed and cosmetics, never a higher ceiling.
- Does spending money make you stronger in Iron Realms?
- No. Nothing purchasable raises your power ceiling. A charter audit runs on every build and fails it if any offer would sell power. During the pre-alpha nothing is for sale at all — better than that, the store gives its goods away: everything in it is free to take, once a day per item, while the realm is being built. When payments do open, spending will compress time only: it clears timers, it never raises the summit.
- How long does it take to max a keep in Iron Realms?
- Keeps cap at level 45 and troops at tier 13 — the same summit for everyone, and it is a campaign: about seven months of steady play at half an hour a day, counting keep 45 and the nineteen plots that gate it. The Fair Play ledger inside the game reads that figure straight out of the shipped constants, so it is never a month behind the build.

Small habits compound into a mighty realm. Here are the ones that matter most.
Every day
- Claim the daily login — the streak compounds at +4% a day to a +120% ceiling on day thirty-one, and the seventh day is a jackpot on top of that multiplier.
- Never leave a builder idle: queue the next upgrade before you log off.
- Press Help on every alliance timer you can — it's free and speeds the whole banner — and press 🤝 Help the hall once every four hours, which helps every ally at once.
- Set a maester expedition or gathering party running when you leave, so away time still earns.
In battle
- Scout before you strike — never siege blind.
- Counter-pick the troop triangle; bring siege only for walls, and protect it.
- Respect terrain — it aids defenders and slows marches.
- Rally with your alliance for anything bigger than your own keep.
Growing smart
- Raise your Keep whenever you can — it's the gate on everything else.
- Research economy first, then war.
- Save big spends for the event that rewards them.
- Join an alliance early — it's the single biggest jump in the game.
The numbers worth memorising
Most advice in this genre is vibes. These are the actual shipped values, and each one changes a decision:
- Energy regenerates 2/minute to a cap of 1,000. A full bar is still a wasted bar — regeneration stops at the ceiling — but the ceiling is now eight hours and twenty minutes deep, so you can sleep on it.
- Leave a region unhunted and it escalates a level every 24 hours, up to six. At level 4 it turns feral and raids you every eight hours. Pruning the wilds is defence.
- The set bonus is +3% attack and defence per filled gear slot, plus +10% for all four. Fill the ring before you upgrade any part of it.
- The Trophy Armory pays +0.4% per benched piece, capped at +8%. Never scrap outgrown gear.
- Seat tribute doubles over the first 24 hours you hold a seat. Trading seats back and forth is the most expensive habit in the game.
- Nothing takes a seat off you but a Takeover blow — and repairing the walls works inside the attacker's 10-minute breach window, so answering the horns can still save it.
- Terrain gives the defender up to +20%. A mountain seat and a plains seat of the same rating are not the same fight.
- World events give +15% to +30% on a whole category — most are +20% or +25%. Bank resources and spend into the matching window.
- The Arena's Elo K is 32. Punch up; farming down barely pays.
- Every event reward claimed also pays 5 flair and 8 battle-pass XP. An unclaimed reward is three currencies left behind.
- Your roster gets twelve commander drills a day, total. Not twelve each — twelve. Pick who grows; expeditions pay 400 XP and cost no drills.
- Field gathering pays 2,500/hour per level of node richness. A richness-5 node is 12,500 an hour, which beats the best maester expedition outright. Gather in the field when you are here; send expeditions for the hours you are not.
- Long Night wave w fields 600 × 1.22w−1 wights. Wave 15 is ~11,000, wave 25 is ~90,000, wave 40 is ~1.9 million. Stop when the next wave costs more host than the next rank is worth.
- VIP 1/2/3 land at 12 / 36 / 72 loyalty — days one, three and six. VIP 2 (or 800 prestige) is what unlocks your second build slot and second study desk. March slots are not on that track — they come from Keep level, two to start and one more every five.
- The daily streak compounds at +4% a day to a +120% ceiling on day thirty-one. A broken streak costs far more than the day you missed.
- Three daily quests are drawn per day from a bank of eighteen. They are the same three for everyone, and they reroll at UTC midnight.
- An alliance help shaves 1.5% of a build's own duration, 20 helps maximum. Up to 30% off, and worth far more on a long build than a short one.
- Farms and sawmills pay 2.0 per level per second; quarries and mines pay 1.4. Stone and iron are the tight pair by design. The Intro Era multiplies all four by 2.5 while it lasts, so what you actually watch tick over is 5.0 and 3.5.
- Stores cap at max(200,000, 6× your next Keep's food) + 50,000 per Depot level. Overflow is discarded, so a Depot is headroom as well as protection.
