Which Season of The Last Kingdom Are You Living Through?
Not which season you liked best — which one you are in. The story runs the same shape five times over: something is taken, an oath is given, a king dies, a long middle has to be held, and an old quarrel comes back for its answer. Nine questions decide which of those you are standing in right now.
Counting the winters…
How it works
Nine questions, four answers each, drawn at random from a bank considerably larger than nine — so a second run is a different paper rather than the same one handed back. No single answer decides anything: each one leans two ways at once, and the verdict comes out of the whole nine.
All of it happens on your own machine. No account, no sign-up, no answer leaving the page, and every question was already inside the file before you opened it — which is why this keeps working with the network switched off, the same as everything else in this corner.
The six answers
- Season One — the year you were taken. The ground goes out from under a person and they are raised by whoever picked them up. Eight episodes, from October 2015.
- Season Two — the year of the oath. Something is owed, and the debt does the steering for a while.
- Season Three — the year the king was dying. The person who defined your life is running out, and nobody has said out loud who comes next.
- Season Four — the long middle. Holding something alive that is not yours and getting no credit for it. This is where the show puts the Battle of Tettenhall, in its fourth episode.
- Season Five — the reckoning. An old quarrel walks back in and asks for its answer, and the thing you wanted from the first hour is finally within reach.
- Seven Kings Must Die — after the ending. The story you thought was finished asks one more thing of you. Released on Netflix in April 2023, a year after the series closed.
Why a stage and not a favourite
"Which season was best" is an argument, not a quiz — everybody already knows their answer and nothing is learned by being told it back. What is actually interesting about this particular story is that it keeps putting the same man in six different positions: robbed, indebted, waiting, holding, settling up, and living afterward. Those are positions a person recognises from their own life without recognising a single episode, which is why the questions here ask about your week rather than about the plot.
Sharing what you got
When the last question lands the address bar changes quietly. That link carries your verdict, so whoever opens it sees the same card you saw and can take the nine questions from the same page. There is also a downloadable result card, drawn inside the page with canvas primitives and never uploaded anywhere.
Common questions
- How many seasons of The Last Kingdom are there?
- Five. The series ran from 10 October 2015 to 9 March 2022 across 46 episodes — eight in season one, eight in season two, and ten each in seasons three, four and five. A feature-length sequel, Seven Kings Must Die, followed on Netflix on 14 April 2023, which is why this quiz has six answers rather than five.
- Where did The Last Kingdom air?
- Season one premiered on BBC Two in October 2015. Season two, in March 2017, was a joint BBC and Netflix production, and Netflix took the rights exclusively from season three onward. The sequel film was a Netflix release. That is why the show is remembered as a BBC series by some viewers and a Netflix series by others — both are right about the part they watched.
- Do I need to have seen the show to take this quiz?
- No. Every question is about you rather than about the series — what you do when something is taken from you, what an oath costs you, how you behave in a long middle stretch where nothing is resolved. The seasons are the vocabulary for the answers, not the subject of the questions, and each verdict explains the season it names.
This is fan-made, and unofficial
This is an unofficial fan quiz inspired by the television series The Last Kingdom and the novels of Bernard Cornwell behind it. It is a free, unofficial fan quiz — an unofficial fan tribute, made for fun. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Carnival Film & Television, Netflix, or Bernard Cornwell and his publishers.
Every question, season note and verdict on this page was written fresh for it. Real characters, real episodes and real, publicly known facts about the series are named under nominative fair use, and where a line of dialogue is quoted it is short, attributed to the character who says it and the season it comes from, and set inside commentary of our own. No scene, transcript, still, clip, logo or artwork is reproduced anywhere in it. Iron Realms — the strategy game the rest of this site is about — is an original fantasy world with its own map, its own houses and its own art, and has no connection to the world of The Last Kingdom. This corner is kept separate on purpose, and nothing in it should be read as suggesting otherwise.
Where the rest of them are
If you would rather be matched against a person than a year, the character quiz is next door, and the ninth-century quiz leaves the show behind for the record it is built on. The The Last Kingdom section lists every quiz and tool in this wing, and the fan tributes hub has the rest of the corner. If you would rather play something than answer questions, Iron Realms is free and runs in a browser tab.
