Which The Last Kingdom Character Are You?

Not who you would like to be at a feast — who you actually are at three in the morning when a decision has to be made and nobody senior is awake. Nine questions, matched against six people from The Last Kingdom on temperament rather than on what happened to them.

Reading the hall…

How it works

Nine questions, four answers each, pulled at random from a bank considerably larger than nine, scored entirely on your own machine. No account, no answer leaving the page, and every question was already inside the file before you opened it.

The six

One word, and where it comes from

The fandom's password is "arseling", which Leofric throws at Uhtred in the fourth episode of the first season on being confronted with a man who wears his sword on his back and sounds like a Dane. It is an Old English word rather than an insult the writers invented, and using it as one is the joke. It has since become the most affectionate thing one viewer of this show can call another.

Why temperament and not fate

Quizzes that sort you by what happened to a character are really asking how much of the show you remember, which is a different game and one this wing will get to. This one asks what you do — who you tell, what you refuse, whether you argue in the room or afterward, and what you are like at three in the morning when somebody has to decide. Those are the only questions whose answers actually belong to you.

Sharing what you got

Common questions

Who plays Uhtred in The Last Kingdom?
Alexander Dreymon, in all 46 episodes of the series between 2015 and 2022, and again in the sequel film Seven Kings Must Die. He also directed an episode of the fifth season. Uhtred is a Northumbrian boy taken as a child and raised by Danes, which is the whole engine of the story — he belongs completely to two peoples who are at war with each other.
Is this quiz spoiler-free?
Broadly, yes. The six people here are described by temperament — how they argue, what they will not do, who they tell the truth to — rather than by what happens to them, and the questions are about you rather than about the plot. The page prose names a couple of widely-known facts about who appears in which season, and nothing beyond that.
Why these six characters and not the rest of the cast?
Because six is the number a sorting quiz can carry without the verdicts blurring into one another, and these six pull in genuinely different directions: the oath-breaker who keeps his word anyway, the scholar-king, the believer who will not compromise, the friend who tells the truth, the daughter who governs, and the priest who stays. More of the hall will follow as this wing grows.

This is fan-made, and unofficial

This is an unofficial fan quiz inspired by the television series The Last Kingdom, naming characters from it under nominative fair use. It is a free, unofficial fan quiz — an unofficial fan tribute, made for fun. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Carnival Film & Television, Netflix, or Bernard Cornwell and his publishers.

Every question and character description on this page was written fresh for it, naming real characters and the series' real setting under nominative fair use. Where a line of dialogue is quoted it is a few words, attributed to the character and the season it comes from, and framed inside commentary of our own; no scene, transcript, still, clip, logo or artwork from the series is reproduced anywhere in it. Iron Realms — the strategy game the rest of this site is about — is an original fantasy world with its own map, its own houses and its own art, and has no connection to the world of The Last Kingdom. This corner is kept separate on purpose, and nothing in it should be read as suggesting otherwise.

Where the rest of them are

If you would rather be placed in a year than matched to a person, the seasons quiz is next door, and the wing's character profiles go into each of them properly. The The Last Kingdom section lists every quiz and tool in this wing, and the fan tributes hub has the rest of the corner. If you would rather play something than answer questions, Iron Realms is free and runs in a browser tab.

Iron Realms is an original work of fantasy strategy. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any other game or franchise, and “Iron Realms” is a working project name rather than necessarily the final title. Its lore, names and artwork are original or used under CC0/CC-BY/OFL licences (see the in-game Credits). The community section also hosts unofficial fan tributes — quizzes and diversions made for fun, not part of the game — which name other fictional worlds under their own labels and are likewise not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to their rights holders.
