Settle an argument — what the Others actually want, if they want anything

My maester tells me I raise this too often. My maester is welcome to raise something better.

What I am actually asking is what the Others actually want, if they want anything. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.

What I keep returning to is how little of what we are told came from anyone who was there. It is all copies of copies, and each copy had a lord paying for the ink.

Say I am wrong, if you think so. Somebody usually does.
