Nobody has ever explained why the Wall was really built, and against what

This will not help anybody take a seat, and I am posting it anyway. Winter nights are long and the board is quiet.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: why the Wall was really built, and against what. I think the plain answer is the true one, and everybody has talked themselves past it.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

Say I am wrong, if you think so. Somebody usually does.
