Before anyone calls this a miracle, count the sacks, mend the bridge, check the hinges, and ask who carries the cost. A former champion returning from maternity leave, gathering momentum again, and being described as a wildcard has the shape of an old tale from our own roads, where the knight who once knew every ford comes back to find the river altered and the bridge less trustworthy than memory.

There is promise in it, certainly, but promise is cheap until it has crossed the wet ground without losing its footing. The report gives us green shoots, a strong beginning, and the sight of confidence returning; it also gives us the quieter measure, that no title has come since 2021. That gap is not a verdict, but neither is it decorative. Years spent rebuilding are years spent paying, in patience, in expectation, and perhaps in the hard knowledge that the body and the crowd do not always restore what they once lent.

And this is the part I recognise. A hall may be grand again after repairs, but someone still had to carry the stones, and someone still checks the roof when the weather turns. Who pays for the return? Who carries it? The old name opens the gate; only present strength keeps it open.

Not yet.
