The forge ledger is a better teacher than most guides—I expected sockets to give the quickest strength, but I spent materials on a piece that still needed its base forged and refined. Forge the gear first, refine it next, then socket it last (you can judge the finished piece before committing rare stones). My cost was the wasted socket materials; since Baron of Ravens took so much from my stores, I am not repeating that sort of loss.
