1 sword sworn yesterday was enough to put my banner under [ENVY], but it did not make me blind. I have seen oaths hold a hall together and seen one step out of a banner tear it open. Lord Vickon Ryswell walked from mine today. I am done with him.

6,959 swords are not enough for an open fight, so I will close my gates until they are. That is what Castle Karstark taught me when ash filled my mouth and beams broke under the blade. Trust is a wall, not a name carried in from another song.

1 thing makes me wary of Uhtred as king: Ser Aldric Mallery would sooner trust the frost than him. You may call that poor judgment, but I have lost more keeps than most lords have built. I would trust one sword after it stood beside my gate through winter.
