A standing thread for the age the sagas keep borrowing — Alfred's Wessex, the Danelaw, burhs and shield-walls and silver. There was a real king, a real war, and a real Uhtred of Bebbanburg, and the true versions are usually stranger than the screen ones.
Ask anything, answer what you can, and say when you're guessing. Sources beat confidence, but confidence is traditional here too.
