Seasons & Weather
Quick answers
- How long is a season in Iron Realms?
- Seven real days. Seasons turn on that cycle, the in-game sky mirrors real weather, and the Long Night is the harshest stretch of the wheel.
- Is Iron Realms free to play?
- Yes. Iron Realms is free to play in any browser with no download and no account required. Every building, troop tier and Seat of Power is reachable without spending money — purchases buy speed and cosmetics, never a higher ceiling.
- Does spending money make you stronger in Iron Realms?
- No. Nothing purchasable raises your power ceiling. A charter audit runs on every build and fails it if any offer would sell power. During the pre-alpha nothing is for sale at all — better than that, the store gives its goods away: everything in it is free to take, once a day per item, while the realm is being built. When payments do open, spending will compress time only: it clears timers, it never raises the summit.
- How long does it take to max a keep in Iron Realms?
- Keeps cap at level 45 and troops at tier 13 — the same summit for everyone, and it is a campaign: about seven months of steady play at half an hour a day, counting keep 45 and the nineteen plots that gate it. The Fair Play ledger inside the game reads that figure straight out of the shipped constants, so it is never a month behind the build.

“Winter is coming” is not a slogan here — it is a clock. The realm's weather turns on a schedule every lord shares, and the sky overhead mirrors the real world.
The seven-day season
Each season lasts exactly seven real days, cycling summer → autumn → winter → spring. A full year of weather turns over every four real weeks. Because the calendar is a pure function of the real clock, every lord in the realm sees the same season on the same day — nobody can buy an early spring or push away winter.
What the seasons do
| Season | Effect |
|---|---|
| ☀️ Summer | Bountiful — more food and faster gathering. |
| 🍂 Autumn | Neutral — but the maesters warn winter is coming. |
| ❄️ Winter | Harsh — food falls, upkeep rises, marches slow, and vision shortens. But the snows favour the walls: defenders gain an edge. |
| 🌱 Spring | The thaw — production recovers. |
The Long Night
Rarely — once every sixth winter — the season darkens into the Long Night, the realm's cruelest stretch. Hold your walls; dawn always comes.
Live real-world weather
Layered on top of the season, the sky over your keep mirrors the real, current weather at the game's anchor town on Long Island, New York. When it rains there, rain streaks over your courtyard; when it snows, snow drifts down. The season reconciles it sensibly — winter freezes any rain to snow, and it never snows in high summer. It is pure atmosphere: if the weather service is unreachable, the season's own sky simply takes over.
