How it works

Nine questions come up, each with four answers, and each answer is a defensible way to run a kingdom rather than an obviously right one. That is the design: a council seat is not a personality, it is a competence, and the only way to sort on competence is to hand somebody a real problem and see which corner of it they reach for first. The nine are dealt at random from a longer list, so a second attempt is a second set.

Everything is worked out in the page you are looking at. Nothing you choose is uploaded or kept, and there is no account anywhere in it — which also means nothing can be remembered for you between visits, so take the link or the image if you want to keep it.

The seven seats

Hand of the King — the one who does the actual governing while somebody else is being the king. Enormous power, no protection.
Master of Coin — where the money is, where the money went, and who is lying about both.
Master of Whisperers — a network of people who tell you things, and the judgement to know which tenth of it is true.
Master of Ships — the fleet, the ports, the trade routes, and the only office whose problems arrive from over the horizon.
Master of Laws — the seat that decides what a rule means when the rule was written by somebody who never met this situation.
Grand Maester — the memory of the table. Present at everything, responsible for nothing, listened to selectively.
Commander of the City Watch — the only person on the council whose decisions are tested in the street within the hour.

Why the seats are harder than they look

Each of these offices fails in a characteristic way, and the questions are written to find out which failure is yours. The Hand burns out. Coin becomes the villain of every story about a shortfall. Whisperers stops being able to tell the difference between a network and a rumour. Ships is always somewhere else. Laws gets used. The Grand Maester is in the room for forty years and is surprised anyway. The Watch is asked to be a wall and then blamed for being one. A verdict here is not a compliment, it is a job description with the difficult part left in.

Taking the result with you

The link in your address bar changes to one that carries your seat. Send it and it opens on the same card, in the same colours, for whoever clicks — no sign-up asked of them either.
