Every shared household already has an agreement. Nobody wrote it down, nobody signed it, and everybody knows exactly what it says. Six questions about how yours actually runs, and the page drafts it properly — six numbered articles, in the register these things deserve.

How it works

Six questions, one per article: the noise and the hours thereof, guests, the refrigerator, the thermostat, the chores, and what happens six months in when a clause turns out to be wrong. Each answer selects one of four drafted clauses, so there are four thousand and ninety-six possible agreements and yours is the one your six honest answers point at. Nothing is random — the document is a pure function of your picks, which is what lets the link reproduce it exactly for the people it binds.

Why the clauses are written rather than generated

The corner’s motto generator assembles phrases from word lists and then checks the result against a blocklist, because a randomly assembled three-word phrase can collide with somebody’s famous line. Forty words of drafted legalese cannot collide by accident, so these are written out — each one the honest and slightly unhinged rule a real household actually runs on. The joke is the register, not a reference: nothing here quotes or paraphrases anything from any television programme, and the agreement is about your flat.

What it is actually for

Two things, and the second is the real one. It is funny, which is enough. But the questions are the ones a shared household genuinely has to answer, and a surprising number of people discover while answering them that their flatmates would have picked differently. Iron Realms — the strategy game the rest of this site is about — is an original fantasy world with its own map, its own houses and its own art, and has no connection to the world of The Big Bang Theory. This corner is kept separate on purpose, and nothing in it should be read as suggesting otherwise.
