The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. When I abandoned Stonewatch, the chapel bell rope had frozen to the tower, and I left it behind with three mules and forty-two men.
I checked the episode and two recaps, but neither settled it: would a frozen bell really fool Uhtred?
