My maester tells me I raise this too often. My maester is welcome to raise something better.

What I am actually asking is whether the prince that was promised is a person or a story people needed. I think it will turn out to be simpler and sadder than the songs have it.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.
