Right, Valyria fell to treachery, didn’t it? The Doom is too convenient a cloak for every frightened lord who wants to blame the earth. I have heard that rival dragonlords opened the way for fire, and I believe them more than I believe a city simply forgot how to survive.
Look, the old tale says the fourteen flames died together, but nobody can prove who warned whom before the red night. A dozen candles on a table would not make every hand innocent, would they? The detail that troubles me is how neatly the survivors found refuge elsewhere.
Right, you should distrust any ruler who calls a ruin an accident, especially when the ruin leaves rivals enriched. My advice costs one silver: watch who inherits after the ashes cool. Valyria was betrayed by people who expected to outlive it, and that is a cheaper truth than sorcery, isn’t it?
