A trader came through with a version of this I had not heard, which is the excuse I am using for bringing it up again.

Strip the songs away and it comes to this: why the Wall was really built, and against what. I have changed my mind on this twice, which is more than most will admit to.

The thing that unsettles me is that the people best placed to know went to considerable trouble to leave no record. Men do not do that over nothing.

Anyone who is certain about this has not thought about it long enough.
