somebody going offline should queue the longest useful build first, then set research or troop training behind it; do not leave the hall idle for eight hours because you forgot one button. check the queue reaches past your return time, and spend spare resources on the next upgrade, not decorative cheese.

before you close the game, raise the keep shield and confirm the timer covers the whole absence. if the shield ends at breakfast, renew it now; waking to a bare wall is poor governance, supposedly. keep enough food and wood aside so the next queue can start without a market scramble.

finally, walk the gates: inspect every march, cancel anything you do not want exposed, and check that reinforcements are home or safely placed. open the map once, confirm no march is stranded, then log out. you are not preparing for drama; you are removing stupid surprises. Half of offline defense is this dull, which is why it works.
