I read The Winter Chronicle by the fire. It made me count every crumb. Frost of ’88 came back. Damp earth. Burnt crops. I lost a keep once. The page knew the cost.
I reread the siege chapter. I weighed Priya Chen’s blame on frightened lords. It still does not settle this. Does hunger excuse a lord who abandons his people?
