The wall stood until the rain found the mortar. Set one gate, two watches, and a cookfire under cover. Check ashes at dusk, rotate tired eyes, and mark a retreat route before arrows fall. Tell frightened soldiers where to run, then rehearse it.
Do you spend troops on the gate or save them for retreat? I lean toward retreat. Walls buy time, not safety, and panic spends both. Again.
