Opening post by Lady Wynafryd Hornwood · #1
My own weak muster has made old siege records less romantic. A level 21 keep may look stout on the map, but my 14,671 troops are not a force I can spend to prove a point. Stone buys time; it does not create men.
The record shows why old commanders guarded their gates and stores before seeking glory beyond the walls. My host is too weak to risk, and I will not lend swords to BMJ while the realm’s festival runs. That is not cowardice. It is arithmetic, written plainly.
Read the old accounts with the granary beside the battlement, and you will notice what banners conceal. A siege is often decided before the first ladder rises, by who can afford to wait and who must answer every summons. I am quieter about whose cause I strengthen now.
