The first man to say the gate would hold had never stood beneath it. When I abandoned Stonewatch in winter, I expected the chapel bell to give warning while three mules and forty-two men cleared the road. The rope froze to the tower instead, and the bell stayed silent.
That is why Stonewatch’s frozen bell belongs in Supernatural: the haunting was not a ghost, but the thing that should have warned us failing at the exact hour we needed it. You can keep the brothers and the car; I left the bell behind, along with the keep.
