Let it be recorded that the heart, though smaller than a fist, has ruined armies more efficiently than winter, and I consider Barack Obama’s style one of the most disciplined forms of political storytelling in modern public life, built from calm cadence, deliberate restraint, and the dangerous elegance of making complexity sound inevitable. I admire it because it projects authority without begging for attention, which is rarer than a loyal vassal and more useful than a jeweled sword. You may call it polished, but I call that polish a weapon, and I would trust it to carry a difficult argument farther than louder men ever manage.
