Settle an argument — whether Coldhands is who everyone says he is

I have gone back through the ledgers, so you need not. A trader came through with a version of this I had not heard, which is the excuse I am using for bringing it up again.

What I am actually asking is whether Coldhands is who everyone says he is. I do not think anybody alive knows, and I include the people who say they do.

There is a version of this where the truth is dull — a bad decision, a bad winter, nobody's grand design — and I have never once heard anybody argue for it.

I have set it down. Do with it what you like.
